The capital of Cuba, Havana, will celebrate its 505th anniversary on 16 November 2024 and for this reason an exciting campaign of events has been created which will be divided into three stages: the first from 9 April to 26 July, the second from 27 July to 16 November and the last from 17 November to 8 January 2025.

What better opportunity to visit this wonderful and unique city.

The details of this initiative were presented in a press conference which promises to animate every corner of the city under the motto “Havana lives in me”.

During these months a series of events will be held which will include music, sport, entertainment, dance, history and literature, as well as tributes to prominent figures such as Commander in Chief Fidel Castro and historians Emilio Roig and Eusebio Leal.

Among the most significant events were the Havana Video Dance Festival and the Havana City in Motion Urban Landscape Dance Festival, the latter which will be held from 25 to 28 April.

Other activities will include the El Trompo Children's Fair, the National Baseball Series at the Latinoamericano Stadium and activities for all ages at Lenin Park.

Furthermore, from May 6 to 18, the celebrations of the International Museum Day are planned in the heritage network of the Office of the Historian of the City of Havana, where you will be able to enjoy exhibitions, conferences, inaugurations of rooms, mini fairs and guided tours.

The Rutas y Andares Project will allow interested parties to explore the streets of Havana in the months of July and August through guided visits to museums, walks in public spaces, thematic routes, virtual tours and workshops.

Then, from 9 to 20 October, Cuban Culture Day will be remembered, classical music will find space with the Havana Mozart Festival and the Cuban Book Institute will dedicate one Saturday of the month to honor the date in its usual Book Saturday.Added to these are other proposals such as the International Golden Bolero Festival, the 12th edition of the A Bridge to Havana International Festival, and the large casino wheel (a choreography where salsa is danced in hundreds of coordinated people) with which Cuba aspires to the Guinness Book of Records.

From 2 to 17 November, a rich program will take place in museums and cultural centers to celebrate the new anniversary of the City of Wonders, which as every year includes in the early hours of each 16 November, the date on which the city was founded, the propitiatory rite of going around the ceiba tree, hundreds of people visit El Templete de Havana to perform the ritual of going around the ceiba tree three times, in the place where the first Mass was held and the first municipality was founded .

Men, women and children, Cubans from all over the country of different religious faiths, even tourists, go around the ceiba tree three times in an anti-clockwise direction, a tradition as old as the city itself, people caress it as if it were a deities, some people throw coins.

In some religions, wishes, aspirations and conflict resolution are expressed at this sacred tree.
